Dyna Crashbar with Speed Merchant Skid Plate

Bung King Dyna Crash Bar Installation

For Use with Speed Merchant Skid Plate
Fitment: 2006–2017 Harley-Davidson Dyna Models

Tools & Supplies Needed

  • Standard socket set

  • Allen wrenches

  • Torque wrench (recommended)

Installation Overview

This installation requires relocating the voltage regulator using the Speed Merchant Regulator Relocation Plate and, if equipped, removing the factory EVAP canister before mounting the crash bar and skid plate assembly.

1. Prepare the Motorcycle

  1. Disconnect the motorcycle battery to avoid electrical contact while moving the voltage regulator.

  2. If your bike is equipped with an EVAP canister, remove it completely, as it will interfere with the skid plate installation.

2. Install the Speed Merchant Regulator Relocation Plate

  1. Remove the voltage regulator from its factory mounting position at the front of the frame.

  2. Position the Voltage Regulator Relocation Plate in the same mounting location, using the round holes at the top and the slotted holes facing downward.

    • The crown-shaped section of the plate should face upward.

  3. Secure the relocation plate using the factory hardware.

  4. Mount the voltage regulator onto the relocation plate using the slotted holes, which lowers the regulator to provide crash bar clearance.

    • Reuse the factory Allen bolts and install the supplied 1/4"-20 nyloc nuts to secure the regulator.

Note: The EVAP canister must remain removed — it will not clear the skid plate when installed.

3. Install the Skid Plate and Crash Bar

  1. Align the Speed Merchant Skid Plate mounting tabs with the crash bar mounting plates.

  2. The skid plate tabs should sit between the frame and the crash bar — both components use the same frame mounting holes.

  3. Install the crash bar and skid plate together, sandwiching the mounting tabs properly.

  4. Start all bolts by hand to ensure proper thread alignment before tightening.

  5. Once all hardware is in place, tighten the bolts securely and check for proper alignment of both the skid plate and crash bar.

4. Final Check

  • Confirm all hardware is torqued to spec.

  • Verify the voltage regulator is secure and clear of all moving components.

  • Double-check clearance around the skid plate, crash bar, and exhaust system.

  • Lower the motorcycle and confirm proper fitment visually before riding.
