Highway Peg Crash Bar Installation Instructions
For 2006 & Up Dyna Forward Control
1. Remove Factory Foot Control Mounts
- Begin by removing the factory foot control mounts from the lower section of the frame.
- There are two allen bolts on each side securing the foot control brackets. Remove these bolts, but leave the brake lines and shifter link attached.
2. Install the Crash Bar
- Slide the crash bar into position.
- Start the upper bolt through the crown tab of the crash bar and into the frame. This bolt will help hold the crash bar vertically in place. Leave this loose until the lower bolts are installed.
- Align the lower section of the crash bar with the mounting location for the forward controls on the lower part of the frame.
3. Reinstall Forward Control Mounts
- Using the longer supplied bolts, replace the original OEM bolts that held the forward control mounts in place.
- Reinstall the forward control mounts over the crash bar, ensuring they mount into their original location. The crash bar mounting plate will sit between the frame and the forward control mount, sharing the same mounting bolt.
- Once all bolts are aligned, tighten them to 30-35 ft-lbs.
4. Ensure Clearance Between Exhaust and Brake Rod
- On some models, the exhaust pipe may be very close to the brake rod from the foot control.
- Check the clearance between these two components. If they are too close, loosen the exhaust pipe and pivot the lower section away from the brake rod.
- If this doesn't provide enough clearance, you can space out the rear pipe mount by ¼ inch to gain additional room.
5. Check Operation of Controls
- Test the operation of the foot controls.
- If any binding is felt on the shifter, loosen the jamb nut on the shifter link and rotate one of the heim joints to eliminate the binding.
