Nightster License Plate Relocation Kit 2023-current

Installation Instructions

 


Needed for install would be an additional right side turn signal spacer.  This spacer is not included in the kit and must be purchased separately from your Harley Davidson dealer.


Step 1: Remove Seat and Rear Fender

  1. Remove the seat from the motorcycle.
  2. Remove the rear fender by first taking out the four bolts that hold it in place at the rear fender strut.
  3. Access Wiring: With the fender removed, locate the license plate light wire inside the left side of the fender strut. Unplug the connector underneath the seat.

Step 2: Remove Fender

  1. Remove the Fender Mounting Bolts:Remove Fender: Once the bolts and nut plates are removed, the fender can be pulled out of place.
    • Remove the four bolts securing the fender to the strut.
    • Remove the inner nut plates inside the fender.

Step 3: Remove Turn Signal and License Plate Bracket

  1. Disconnect Wiring: Find and unplug the wiring connector for the license plate light under the seat.
  2. Remove Left Turn Signal and License Plate Bracket: Unscrew and remove the bolt holding the left turn signal and license plate bracket in place.

Step 4: Install Spacer on Left Side

  1. OEM Spacer: The OEM spacer typically used on the right side turn signal must be added to the left side after the license plate bracket is removed.
    • Note: This spacer is not included in the kit and must be purchased separately from your Harley Davidson dealer.

Step 5: Reinstall Fender

  1. Position Fender: Set the fender back in place.

  2. Install Bolts:

    • Install the OEM fender bolt in the front mounting hole.
    • Use the supplied longer M8 Allen head bolt for the rear mounting hole.
  3. Reinstall OEM Fender Nut Plates: Reinstall the OEM nut plates back into their stock position inside the fender.


Step 6: Mount License Plate Light

  1. Remove License Plate Light: Take the license plate light off the OEM license plate bracket.
  2. Install License Plate Light: Mount the license plate light onto the new license plate relocation bracket using the two threaded standoffs on the bracket and the 8-32 hex bolts supplied.

Step 7: Install License Plate Relocation Bracket

  1. Install M6 Hex Head Bolt:

    • Take the supplied M6 hex head bolt with aluminum spacer and washer.
    • Insert it into the threaded hole inside the fender strut.
    • The spacer should be placed against the fender strut, with the washer at the head of the bolt.
    • Leave the bolt loose at this point.
  2. Install License Plate Bracket:

    • Slide the new license plate relocation bracket onto the M6 bolt between the spacer and washer.

Step 8: Secure the License Plate Bracket

  1. Slip the License Plate Bracket into Position:

    • The rear of the license plate bracket will slip over the M6 bolt installed earlier.
    • The front of the license plate bracket will slip over the longer M8 fender bolt.
  2. Secure the Bracket:

    • Install the M8 nyloc nuts onto the longer M8 fender bolts to secure the bracket in place.
    • Tighten the four mounting bolts securing the license plate relocation bracket.

Step 9: Reconnect Wiring and Reassemble

  1. Route Wiring: Route the wiring for the license plate light inside the fender so that it clears the tire.
  2. Reconnect Wiring: Plug the license plate light back into the wiring harness.
  3. Reinstall Seat: Once everything is securely in place, reinstall the seat.

Final Check:

  • Ensure that all bolts are tightened securely.
  • Double-check that the wiring is routed safely and does not interfere with moving parts.
  • Confirm that the license plate light is functioning properly.
