Squish Plate

Bung King Squish Plate Installation Instructions

Overview

The Bung King Squish Plate Assembly is a bolt-on protective setup for Harley-Davidson Dyna, Sportster & FXR models.  It combines the styling of a 12-bar with added safety and adjustability—featuring replaceable rubber bumpers and a sacrificial plate so you only ever need to swap the wear component, not the entire unit.

The main body is built from ¼" CNC-cut steel plate, and it mounts to the inside of the rear fender using the factory fender strut holes.  Fender trimming is required for fitment, and in many cases longer fender bolts are needed to accommodate the assembly.

This install sheet guides you through fender trimming, alignment, and mounting in a clean, step-by-step format.

Installation Steps

  1. Remove the Tail Light Assembly
Remove your tail light from the fender to expose the square mounting opening where the light was seated.

  2. Mark Your Cut Line
    From the rear view:

    • Use the upper edge of the square opening as your horizontal reference line.

    • Create a vertical cut downward from that line toward the ground.

    • This will position the fender just above the body of the squish plate, letting the rubber bumper and sacrificial plate protrude outward slightly.

  3. Alternate Marking Method (Optional / With Fender Off)
If you prefer, remove the fender and place the squish plate assembly inside it.
Align the mounting holes of the fender with those on the squish plate, then use the plate’s edges as a trimming guide before cutting.

  4. Install the Squish Plate Assembly

    • Fit the squish plate assembly inside the fender, aligning mounting holes.

    • Some models will require longer bolts to reach through the increased thickness.

    • The assembly includes slotted mounting holes to allow slight positional adjustment before final tightening.

  5. Final Fitment & Re-assembly

    • Confirm that the rubber bumper and sacrificial plate clear the fender without touching.

    • Make sure all mounting points and bolts are aligned.

    • Reinstall your tail light and any support hardware you removed.

Installation Complete

Your Bung King Squish Plate is now mounted. It provides robust protection to your tail section, allowing the sacrificial plate to absorb impacts—while the rest of the assembly stays intact for long-term use.
