Stunt sprockets

If you are looking for some inexpensive horsepower for your Dyna, Sportster, or FXR, you may want to read this little experiment we did. The main key to this is our large 60 and 65 tooth rear sprockets available for sealed and timken bearing hubs at http://www.bungking.com/.
One of the oldest ways to increase the torque of your final drive is to increase the gear ratio. By increasing the rear sprocket size, or rear tooth count on your bike you can create this increase in gear ratio. Of course there are limits to any system. By increasing the gear ratio, while it will create more torque felt from the rear wheel, it will limit your top end speed. These big sprockets probably wouldn’t be a great choice if you are just running a 4 speed transmission, but some of the later bikes with 6 speeds are a completely different story.
The newer Dyna’s that come factory with a 6 speed transmission have seemed to us, and our customers to be geared a little too tall. Using the 6th gear on these models under normal driving conditions seems to be very rare, and in most cases it seems to bog the bike down because of excessively low RPM when in 6th gear. Because of this the ’06 and up Harley Dynas seemed to be a good test subject for a little gearing change experiment.
We started with a mostly stock 2012 Dyna Street Bob. We removed the front pulley and installed a sprocket in its place. Then we installed a 62 tooth rear sprocket on the rear wheel along with a sprocket spacer to help align everything, and then a 530 o-ring chain. Then it was time for some testing!!!
The power gains felt seemed pretty large but the top end didn’t seem to be affected too much. Speeds of 110 mph + were still easily achieved. To test a little further, we decided to add a few more teeth to the design and we cut a new 65 tooth sprocket. Once installed it was time to see if we went too far. After a weekend of riding, it seemed just about right. Any bigger and the top speed or freeway cruising speed would be too much for everyday use, but the power gains were definitely worth it.
For about $400-$500 you can purchase all of the parts needed to convert your belt drive over to a chain and sprocket setup. The power gains are well worth the investment and 1st and 2nd gear wheelies on an almost completely stock Dyna can be achieved with ease. These spockets are available in a 60 or 65 tooth size to fit your needs as well as in the earlier timken bearing hub or the later 2000 and up sealed bearing hub. We have also tried them up on some sportsters as well. The sprockets can be found on our e commerce site http://www.bungking.com or here on this link.
